Help Support Doug and Becky Groothuis

Dear friends,
Rebecca Groothuis is 59 years old, an erstwhile musician, the author of two books (Good News for Women, and Women Caught in the Conflict), and the editor of one (Discovering Biblical Equality). When Becky wrote, she elegantly, cleverly, and grammatically crafted her prose, all the while clearly conveying her arguments through sharp wit and logical prowess. She used her unusually wise intellect to edit and improve Doug's many books, as well.
The last few months have been extraordinarily painful for Doug and Becky. Becky has had physical autoimmune and other health problems for many years, but that all pales in comparison to this new battle. In the last year she has experienced frightening and dramatic changes in her cognitive functioning. Her decline has happened rapidly, impairing her ability to read or write. As of March 10th, 2014 she has been diagnosed with dementia, although we do not yet know what kind. The most frightening part is this: When she arrives home from the hospital, she will need 24-hour care of some variety.
This page has been created for two purposes. First is to let you know what is going on with Becky, so you can pray. The second purpose is to allow you to help Dr. Groothuis care for his wife and also continue his valuable ministry of teaching, preaching, and writing.
Becky and Dr. Groothuis have no children, and have no other family members in the area. Therefore, I ask you to please consider helping my dear friends in any way you can. I know Dr. Groothuis would appreciate prayers, in addition to help like meals (visit the Groothuis Meal Train here) and house cleaning. Obviously, though, the biggest burden on him is the thought of paying for Becky's hospital bills over the last month, and for professional 24-hour care. They were not prepared for this to happen so soon, and their new insurance plan does not cover all the hospital bills or all of the long-term care. Please consider lending your aid to these precious servants of God during this terrifying, traumatizing, and exhausting time.
The bills are large, but every little bit helps.
