Review

"This book will prepare anyone who is either enrolled in college or is planning to go to college for the daily challenges Christians deal with on campus. Jonathan Morrow is aware of the real college world and is dead-on with his excellent insight."

"Reading this book is like having your own personal mentor and friend to guide you through the rough rapids of college life. College is a great experience, but it can also be faith-shattering if you are not adequately prepared. This book is perfect for the high school senior who is curious about what college life will be like. It is also helpful to the college student who is dealing with the day-to-day challenges and questions faced both in and out of the classroom.

"Jonathan has both the intellectual resources as well as the practical experience to provide an effective students' survival guide to university life. I'm impressed with the wide array of issues he discusses, from intellectual challenges to financial problems to sexual snares to getting enough sleep! All this is done in easily digestible bits for the student on the run." --
William Lane Craig, Theologian and author Reasonable Faith

"Jonathan Morrow has written an extremely practical, insightful guide for navigating the challenges of college life. It is wide ranging and wise. I enthusiastically recommend it!" --
Paul Copan, Pledger Family Chair of Philosopy and Ethics, Palm Beach Atlantic University

One look at the "Table of Contents" of this book will tell you it covers lots of ground, from the fundamentals of the Christian faith and healthy biblical thinking to how to live accordingly in regards to real life issues such as sexuality, money and alcohol. I am truly amazed at the amount of content that Jonathon packed into each short yet understandable chapter. I am going to use this book as the guide to take a number of high schoolers and early college age youth through a several week study that will leave them with a tool that will have value for years to come, even after their college experience is complete. Two things that make this book even more valuable is the the "Big Idea" section at the end of each chapter which hits the main few points of the chapter, additionally in the "For Further Discovery" sections Jonathon gives us a list of some of the best books in each area for deeper study if one would chose. This is very valuable as one grows in their Christian walk. It is my opinion every college age person should read and study this book whether in a group or as a self study. As a bonus I think this book has value as a foundational book for anyone who comes to faith in Jesus because more than 2/3's is of value to all ages, 15-75, who want to "think Christianly".

Fresh out of High School and that last summer break, you pack up your child and send them out into the world. You have had 18ish years to prepare them for the world, and now you send them out into it. Your biggest concern is for their safety and that maybe they will call home now and again.

But what about their faith? Have you, your church and their youth group been enough? Are they strong enough? Do they know where to find the answers? Do you? How do they deal with the first "God is dead" statement they hear from a professor?

Morrow provides a handy and engaging resource for just this dilemma. Designed not just for full reading but also a flash-point resource, the book is packed with Godly wisdom, practical advice and "been there, done that" experiences. For situations that demand more information he provides a wealth of resources for further exploration and the end of each chapter as well as a synopsis of each chapter for quick review.

Written for the new college student this book has value for anyone who has ever been stymied, stifled, cajoled, ridiculed or ostracized for trying to defend the faith. It will be even of greater value for those who don't even know were to start. It is a magnificent work in helping you to think Christianly, live Godly, build your faith and defend God and his word.

The world surrounding you awaits you. High School was a journey that introduced concepts and perspectives to you, but college will reintroduce you to those and so much more.

Any time a person is getting ready for a trip or adventure, there is a preparation that must take place. Without it, you are unprepared and vulnerable to whatever may come your way.

With entering college, you are entering a stewpot of worldview, perspectives and ideas that can both help and harm you. Therefore, this book serves as a preparation encyclopedia of both theology and practicality for the college freshmen.

The author does due diligence to address things that are both common and unique to the college experience and the season of young adulthood. I found this book both challenging and refreshing to the mind. It paints a broad picture of everything that a student will have available to them while nailing the specifics of it all.

This is a resource that should be close at hand to those entering college and already in college. Pick this up for your graduate and their summer reading plan.

I received this book free from Kregel Publications as part of their Academic & Ministry Blog Review Service. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

So far from what I've read the book is great. It is basically a huge encyclopedia that covers different topics that a student will encounter in College. There are a plethora of topics: everything from deciding which school to go to, to apologetics, to practical stuff. I think incoming freshman who could use a good dose of wisdom and seniors like me who are looking for a resource to complement their experiences, will find this book very useful. The wisdom in this book is very relevant and useful and the author is very entertaining.

The downside is that since there are so many topics (42 chapters plus appendices) the topics do not go in depth. This is only the beginning point to an answer for many readers.

Still the book offers tons of other material that one can use to further study a topic and the chapters are a very quick read and very entertaining.

Highly recommend this to people wanting to lead college groups and youth pastors who want to see their students succeed once they get out of high school.

First off, I am a new college student. I purchased this book after hearing Jonathan Morrow interviewed by J. Warner Wallace on a podcast. I had heard about it, and considering I was starting college soon, decided to purchase it. It is well worth the price. It gives short overviews of everything a college student who is a follower of Christ needs to know. Topics include:

    Dating,
    Time management
    Finances,
    Relationships,
    Sex,
    Reliability of the Bible,
Origin of life and scientific philosophy
    And Theological topics.

I highly recommend this book as a great resource for any Christian who is starting college soon. It will really help answer questions students may have.
